Appointment Tips |
To maximize the your time with our physician, the following are some tips or thoughts to consider:
- Copy and supply your primary provider the referral verbiage so they can issue a strong referral. Contact us for the in network request letter we have. Supply both to your insurance as soon as possible. It all mounts increasing pressure on your insurance company to reimburse at appropriate levels.
- We are happy to have mulitiple members of a family in the consult, but please consider having someone attend (friend or family member) who can sit with children in our waiting room if that would be easier on the children.
- We are a no poke office (children and even some adults like that) but we may issue orders that may require a poke to be done downstairs (draw station in the building) or by a local source.
- Fill out the New Patient or Follow up Questionnaire as fully as possible and send in at least 2 weeks before your appointment. This provides the physician time to review & prepare.
- Be honest,
thorough, and to the point with answers in the questionnaire, but do not worry if you cannot answer all the questions. Do the best you can.
- Write down a list of questions you wish to ask during your appointment. If possible, email the list to VMP prior to the visit.
- Plan to arrive early at our office, just in case of traffic, as we can have a full schedule and others will be seen at their appointed time.
- If your visit is virtual, please insure that we have your contact info as we will contact you. If using Skype, make sure it is up and functional at the appointed time.
- If you are new patient to VMP, as soon as possible please fill out the Authorization to Release PHI form and send it into your physician's office. Some offices can take a great deal of time to release records. We like to have all your records at least a week before your appointment.

While your insurance may not require it, it may be wise to gain a referral to our practice by your primary provider. The referral can be provided to your insurance, which only adds more pressure on them to reimburse at
appropriate
levels. Suggested referral verbiage that you can provide your provider follows:
- XXXXX (patient name and DOB)
has or is suspected to have a mitochondrial, metabolic, or other inherited disorder that requires a specialist in those fields. We have referred this patient to Dr Kendall at Virtual Medical Practice NPI# 1881658300 who is recognized as a leader and is one of only a handful of specialists in the US who is focused and knowledgeable in these areas. There are no such specialists at least within a reasonable 30 mile radius or who have openings within a 2 week period of time. Please remember that not all geneticists are the same nor have the skills to properly diagnose or treat this patient as Dr Kendall has.
Please contact us for a strong letter that you can provide your insurance that requests in network benefits. Many are being granted in network benefits. Please remember that depending on your insurance company and even without in network benefits, you will typically be reimbursed anywhere between 60% - 100% of your visit.
